Ruukki to Supply Steel Structure in Lipetsk Region

Rautaruukki has signed a contract with the Russian company Terwingo to design and deliver the steel frame and roof structures for a special steel wire production plant to be built in the Lipetsk region of Russia. The contract is worth around EUR 7 million.

Terwingo focuses on, among other things, nanotechnology projects. The new plant will make special steel wire for use in the solar energy industry (photovoltaic cells) to cut silicon crystals. The plant is being built in Gryaz, around 500 km to the southeast of Moscow, and will have a production capacity of around 10,000 tonnes a year. The building will have a total area of 46,000 m2.

Ruukki has ready conceptualized steel halls and structures in Russia, and the Trusscon structures launched this spring will be used in this project. Trusscon is especially suited for large logistics, production, and commercial buildings. The roof structures in this project are unique, Ruukki notes, because the plant will have 230 skylights.

Ruukki's deliveries are expected to end in January 2012.

Ruukki supplies metal-based components, systems and integrated systems to the construction and engineering industries. The company has a wide selection of metal products and services. It has operations in 27 countries and employs 11,700 people.
