Ruukki to Supply Steel Frame, Facade for Technopolis Ruoholahti Helsinki Phase II

Ruukki has signed a delivery contract to deliver the steel frame and façade for the second construction phase of Technopolis Ruoholahti Helsinki. The new building totals around 16,000 gross square meters, and the contract worth is estimated at about EUR 3 million.

Ruukki's customer for the delivery is Fira Oy, the main construction contractor in the project. Ruukki's total delivery includes foundation piles, a fire-protected steel frame and thermopurlins for the exterior walls. Ruukki is also responsible for structural and construction design of the structures. The delivery also includes glass façades, as well as installation of the concrete elements.

"Ruukki was a reliable choice for our steel structure contractor and the total responsibility assumed by the company will give impetus to the project," says Miska Eriksson, Project Manager at Fira Oy. “We also successfully worked with Ruukki during construction of the first phase of Technopolis Ruoholahti Helsinki.”

The frame structures will be manufactured at Ruukki's works in Peräseinäjoki, Finland and the WQ beams at the works in Russia.

"Structural design of the steel frame played an important role in this project and we have a sound track record in this kind of design," said Sami Eronen, SVP, Building Projects, Ruukki Construction. “During the installation stage, we will be responsible for ensuring that the structures are safely installed to schedule. Prefabrication of the structures will also shorten installation time, reduce risks and improve safety at the construction site.”

Ruukki will begin installation work at the site in April, with the work scheduled to take about six months. The building is due for completion in May 2012.
