Ruukki to Supply Frame, Envelope Structures for Market Structure in Finland

Kesko Corp., Finland, has contracted Ruukki for design, manufacture and installation of the frame and envelope structures for the new K-citymarket supermarket in Kauhajoki, Finland. The contract is worth about EUR 2 million.

The new K-citymarket in Kauhajoki will be built not far from the town center, next to the Rautia K-maatalous agricultural store, completed in 2010. Around 7000 square meters of the retail premises are to be opened in the first stage.

Kesko’s selection of Ruukki as contractor was based in part on Ruukki’s expertise in the construction of load-bearing structures in compliance with fire resistant requirements. “The advanced fire protection solutions developed by Ruukki, together with energy-efficient façade systems and good experiences of projects already completed impacted on our choice of contractor,” said Construction Manager Matti Tapio at Ruokakesko (Kesko Food).

Ruukki's delivery will include the steel frame, with fire protection solution, facade panels, doors and windows, and the profiles bearing the ceiling, including thermal insulation and waterproofing work. Ruukki also will install the concrete elements.

Ruukki plans to manufacture the steel structures primarily at the company’s plant in Peräseinäjoki, Finland, while the panels and load-bearing liner sheets will be supplied from Alajärvi and Vimpeli in Finland. Installation of the structures is scheduled to be carried out before the end of 2011.
