Ruukki to Initiate Employer-Employee Negotiations at Kalajoki Unit
08/27/2013 - Ruukki Building Systems is to initiate employer-employee negotiations concerning redundancies in its Kalajoki unit in Finland for reasons related to production, finance and reorganizing the operations.
The negotiations affect the entire unit — a total of 62 persons comprising 49 workers, 8 salaried employees and 5 senior salaried employees.
The orders to Kalajoki unit have stopped and the company is studying different options for the future of the unit. Most of the Kalajoki unit's personnel have been temporarily laid off since February 2013. Because of the weak market situation, there have been temporary layoffs also at Ruukki Building Systems' other Finnish units at Peräseinäjoki and Ylivieska.
The timing of potential workforce reductions at the Kalajoki unit will become clear as the negotiations progress. Closing the unit is one of the options and therefore the maximum needed workforce reduction is the whole personnel of the unit.
