Ruukki Selected for Bridge Project Delivery in Norway
09/30/2009 - Ruukki has signed a contract to deliver and install steel structures for Krakeroy bascule bridge and steel piles for the bridge foundations.
Ruukki has signed a contract for an extensive delivery for a transport infrastructure project in Fredrikstad, Norway. The delivery includes steel structures, and installation, for Krakeroy bascule bridge and steel piles for the bridge foundations.
The order is worth a total of around €5 million. Ruukki will deliver the structures for the 100-metre-long bridge to Skanska Norge AS and the piles to Nordenfjeldske Spunt og Peleservice AS.
"The large prefabricated structures will be shipped directly to the construction site. Installation will be carried out by lifting the large structures directly into place. By transferring the work phases from the construction site to the workshop, we can reduce installation time and minimize the risks at the site," said Sami Eronen, Senior Vice President, Infrastructure and Northern Europe, Ruukki Construction.
The bridge structures will be manufactured at Ruukki's Sandnessjøen works in Norway and the steel piles at the Oulainen works in Finland.
Delivery of the piles for the bridge foundations is already under way. Manufacture of the structures is scheduled to begin in late 2009, and installation work is to be completed in spring 2010.
When Krakeroy bridge opens for traffic in fall 2010, it will be 26 meters wide and the bascule will span 36 meters long.
