Ruukki Reports Fire at Raahe Works
04/16/2012 - Ruukki reported that it sustained a fire at its Raahe Works caused by a breakout in the slag pot in the steel plant’s ladle furnace area.
Ruukki reported that it sustained a fire at its Raahe Works last Thursday morning, April 12.
The company said the fire broke out at about 5am local time last Thursday in the Raahe steel plant’s ladle furnace area. According to the company, the incident was caused by a breakout in the slag pot. Molten slag spilling from the hole ignited a fire that was soon brought under control.
The cause of the slag pot’s breakout is not yet known.
The company said there were no injuries, however, the incident did damage the conveyor area of the ladle furnace.
