Ruukki Joins United Nations Global Compact

Ruukki recently joined the United Nations Global Compact, a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to enhance good corporate citizenship.

“By signing the initiative, Ruukki is committed to enhancing sustainable development in its operations,” said Toni Hemminki, Ruukki’s Senior Vice President, Technology, Energy and Environment. Energy efficiency is an example of this.

“It is a key aspect of Ruukki’s products and work to develop them,” added Hemminki. “For customers, it means increasingly lighter structures and lower energy costs and emissions.”

The UN Global Compact upholds ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption that are derived from:

·         The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
·         The International Labour Organization's Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
·         The Rio Declaration on Environment and Development
·         The United Nations Convention Against Corruption
