Ruukki Improves New High-Strength Steel for Use in Extreme Conditions

The new Optim 700 QL1 is a structural steel with improved impact strength properties. The impact strength of Optim 700 QL1 has been tested at a temperature of -60oC making it ideal for use in very demanding conditions and at sub-zero temperatures. Applications include cranes, load-bearing structures as well as frame structures and components of heavy machinery.

"The strength and impact toughness of Optim 700 QL1 structural steel ensures the load-bearing capacity of even the most demanding lifting equipment and meets the applicable safety criteria also at low temperatures," said Josu Piña, vice president, Americas at Ruukki.

Ruukki is a leader in the development of high-strength special steels and has been manufacturing Optim high-strength steels since 2002. Ruukki's manufacturing program includes the thinnest ultra-high-strength structural steels on the market. The new Optim 700 QL1 steel complies with the EN 10025-6+A1 standard. The steel is available in a thickness range of 6.00 - 60.00 mm. Processing of Optim steels is easy thanks to good formability, bendability, and weldability.
