Russula has successfully completed two projects for the Nucor Steel rolling mill in Jackson, Miss.
The first project was to supply Nucor with a state of the art High Speed Data Acquisition System which will assist maintenance and operating personnel in the trouble shooting and tuning of the mill automation and drive systems. The new HSDAS will provide process visibility down to 1msec resolution and allow the storage and review capability for three months on one DVD. Process analytical tools for trending, reporting and analysis were also included. An important feature of the HSDAS is the ability to remotely monitor the process by Nucor or supplier personnel away from the mill.
The second project completed by Russula was to replace the existing mill tension control with the well proven Russula system. The new tension control was implemented in a ControLogix PLC that was then incorporated in the existing rolling mill automation. The goal of this project is to reduce change time when rolling new products and increase yield with more material on spec.
Both projects were completed in July 2012.
