Russian Steelmaker Selects Primetals for Blast Furnace Automation
01/19/2017 - Primetals Technologies has won an order to supply the instrumentation and the automation and electrical equipment for a Russian steel works’ new blast furnace.
According to Primetals, the order, from EVRAZ’s Nizhny Tagil steel works, is worth several million euros.
“The basic automation (level 1) and the process optimization (level 2) will be installed as a virtualized automation system on central, redundant servers, which will drastically reduce service costs, especially those for future upgrades. The new process automation will also optimize the coke consumption,” the company said in a statement.
Designated as the No. 7 furnace, it will be capable of producing 2.5 million tons of iron annually and is to be commissioned in 2018. Blast furnace engineer Paul Wurth is providing the furnace’s key technologies.
