Russian Steel Producer Taps Danieli for New Rolling Mill
12/18/2020 - Danieli has been awarded a contract to build a special steel rolling mill for Russian steelmaker Severstal, the equipment supplier has announced.
In a statement, Danieli said the new mill will annually produce 1 million metric tons of wire rod and bar. It will make smooth wire rod and coiled bar in diameters between 5.5 mm and 32 mm and quenched rebar between 8 and 16 mm in diameter.
The rolling mill will consist of a single-strand, high-speed roughing mill made of horizontal and vertical housingless stands that will feed two independent wire rod lines and a garret coiler to produce the larger diameters.
The intermediate mill will use horizontal housingless stands while the finishing stand group will consist of cantilever stands and two separate fast-finishing blocks (six plus four passes) in order to achieve better macrostructure, Danieli said.
The scope of supply also includes a Danieli Centro Combustion walking beam reheating furnace capable of processing 170 metric tons per hour.
Start-up is scheduled for the end of 2022.
