RSI to Supply X-ray Thickness Gauge for Severstal Sparrows Point Hot Mill
10/10/2008 - Radiometric Services & Instruments will supply a complete new X-ray thickness gauging system for Severstal Sparrows Point’s 68-inch hot strip mill.
Radiometric Services & Instruments has received an order from Severstal Sparrows Point for the supply of a complete new X-ray thickness gauging system for the 68-inch hot strip mill at the company’s Sparrows Point, Md., facility.
The Sparrows Point hot mill will use the RSI Model 100 Hot Mill X-ray Thickness Gauging System to provide centerline thickness measurement of the hot strip at mill exit. Thickness data will be communicated to the automatic gauging control (AGC) system for mill control.
The company said the thickness gauge would be supplied with a stainless steel C-frame and stainless steel water jackets for maximum durability and temperature stability.

This is RSI’s 17th order for a hot mill gauging system. Delivery is expected in the first quarter of 2009.
