Romanian Tubemaker Adding Heat Treatment Line to Mill
02/22/2016 - Romania’s TMK-ARTROM has awarded a contract to the SMS group for a new heat treatment line, according to SMS.
The order includes an austenitizing furnace with walking beam transport system, a quenching head, a quenching tank, a walking beam tempering furnace and a cooling bed. SMS said the line will be capable of treating steel tubes with wall thickness of up to 60 mm.
The plant, which has an annual capacity of 160,000 tons, makes seamless tubes, oil country tubular goods (OCTG) and high-strength tubes for mechanical applications.
According to SMS, TMK is adding the line with the intent of boosting its presence in the mechanical tube market and the OCTG market.
The new line is to begin operating in the second quarter of 2017.
