Roanoke Electric Steel Corp. has informed its customers that it will increase its fuel surcharge from 8 to 12%, effective with shipments on Monday, March 21.

The company says the increase, which was prompted by continued escalations in fuel costs, was necessary in order to retain its carrier base. The company adds that it has not adjusted the fuel surcharge since Oct. 1, 2004.
