Rizhao Steel Achieves Production Goal, Makes First Ultra-Thin Strip

The vendor, Primetals Technologies, said the company produced 0.8-mm strip on its new Arvedi Endless Strip Production No. 1 mill. The mill was placed into service in February and made its first 0.8-mm strip in July.

"Rizhao not only had pushed for the quick production of ultra-thin hot strip, but also switched swiftly to full-scale commercial production because the product is being very well received in the market -- not only in China but worldwide," Primetals said in a statement. "The achievement of this milestone was mainly possible due to the theoretical and practical instruction of the operating staff on the ESP plant belonging to Acciaieria Arvedi SpA in Cremona, Italy, offered by Primetals Technologies."

According to Primetals, the mill is capable of producing 2.55 million metric tons of ultra-thin hot strip annually. It can make strip in widths up to 1,600 mm.

The mill is one of five casting-rolling mills that Rizhao has ordered from Primetals. Mill No. 1 and No. 2 are in operation. Mill No. 3 is to come online this fall. Mill No. 4 and No. 5 are to be commissioned in 2016, Primetals said.
