Rising Demand Prompts NLMK to Reactivate Hot-Dipped Galvanizing Line
02/06/2017 - NLMK’s U.S. division has restarted the No. 2 galvanizing line at its Sharon Coating plant in Pennsylvania, the steelmaker announced on Monday.
The restart of the hot-dipped line, which was idled in 2012 on account of weak demand, restores approximately 226,000 metric tons of annual capacity, the company said.
Bob Miller, chief executive of NLMK USA, said the company decided to put the line back into service due to increased demand arising from the automotive and construction markets. Additionally, he said trade measures are keeping unfairly traded products in check, contributing to demand.
Indeed, NLMK USA saw sales of galvanized sheet increase 10% to 359,000 metric tons in 2016.
