Revamped Cold Mill Runs Its First Coil
10/08/2018 - China’s Masteel has completed upgrades to a reverse cold mill at its Maanshan plant in the Anhui province and has begun producing coils, reports the equipment supplier on the project.
According to Primetals Technologies, the project is the first cold mill upgrade to incorporate its Hyper Universal Crown technology. Hyper Universal Crown mills feature work rolls with diameters that are 20% to 40% smaller than those used in conventional universal crown control mills.
Primetals Technologies said the smaller work rolls enable greater thickness reductions, allowing for harder and thinner strip.
“The upgrade enables Masteel to meet the growing demand for electrical steels spurred by increasing requirements for end uses, such as in vehicle electrification,” Primetals said in a statement.
With the upgrade, the mill can produce sheet in thicknesses of between 0.3 mm and 0.65 mm and in widths of between 900 mm and 1,280 mm.
