Barbara led CMC through a period of unprecedented transformation, growth and innovation,” said Sarah Raiss, CMC’s lead independent director.  

Smith will remain on the board, but as executive chairman. Matt will take over as chief executive on 1 September and will remain a board member. 

Raiss said CMC is looking forward to continuing along it strong trajectory under Matt’s leadership. She said Matt is a strategic thinker, strong collaborator and proven leader.

Matt was named CMC president in April and is a seasoned global business leader with significant experience across a range of industrial companies including metals and metals-related industries, CMC said.
