Republic Steel’s New EAF Produces 1,000th Heat

Melt shop production has continued to increase since the start up in February 2014 utilizing the billet caster.  The bloom caster has now completed commissioning and is in production mode.

The EAF increases Republic’s steel production capacity by 1 million tons annually and will allow Republic to increase production on both the Lorain 9”-10” rolling mill for coil product and the 20” rolling mill for large bars, improving delivery performance and reducing lead times.

The company’s melt shop in Canton, Ohio, can now focus on increasing the supply of bloom cast re-rolled billets to the Lackawanna 13” rolling mill which primarily serves the growing automotive market.
