Reports: Some Ukrainian BFs Coming Back On-Line
04/13/2022 - Metinvest released a statement yesterday detailing the current status of operations in its facilities in Ukraine, in which it said the company’s management “continues to undertake a number of actions to ensure the continuing operations of the Group’s other assets, to the extent that it is safe for its employees and subject to ongoing logistical constraints in Ukraine.”
The company reported that its Zaporizhstal joint venture is resuming operations. Earlier this month, the facility began blowing two out of its four blast furnaces and partially restarted its sinter plant. The plant had been in hot conservation mode since early March.
Metinvest said “this move at Zaporizhstal was preceded by the resumption of operations at Metinvest’s assets located in Zaporizhia, such as Zaporizhia Coke and Zaporizhia Refractories, which produce metallurgical coke and refractories, correspondingly.”
Additionally, Metinvest’s Kamet Steel in Kamianske continues to operate utilizing all three of its blast furnaces.
The company also reported that its facilities in Mariupol and Avdiivka are still in hot conservation mode.
Reports also say that ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih restarted its No. 6 blast furnace on Tuesday. According to the Interfax Information Services Group, the facility’s No. 8 furnace is expected to restart in May.
