Report: U.K. Looks to Provide Support to British Steel, Tata Steel UK
01/23/2023 - The U.K. government reportedly is considering GBP600 million in financial support for its two biggest steel producers to help them convert to low-CO2 processes.
According to the BBC, the government is weighing grants of GBP300 million apiece for British Steel and Tata Steel UK to convert from blast furnace steelmaking and to assist with energy costs.
The BBC reported that the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is “working closely with the steel industry to secure what it describes as ‘a sustainable and competitive future.’"
