Report: India's Steelmaking Capacity Might Triple in Next 10 Years
12/30/2015 - India’s annual steelmaking capacity is projected to reach approximately 300 million metric tons by 2026, according to the Business Standard newspaper.
The newspaper, citing a report by the Indian steel ministry’s Metallurgical & Engineering Consultants Ltd., said the projection is based on an increase of 12 percent each year for the next 10.
The country's current capacity is about 98.3 million metric tons per year.
The newspaper said the state of Odisha is to lead in terms of new capacity, expected to add about 59.4 million tons worth of production capabilities overs the next 10 years.
That growth is followed by the state of Jharkhand, India’s No. 1 steel producer, which is to add 56.8 million metric tons of capacity during the same time, the newspaper said.
