Report: Ecolant Breaks Ground on DRI-Fed EAF Steel Plant in Russia

The 1.8-million-metric-tons-per-year plant will be fed with in-house-made direct reduced iron (DRI), and might, according to reports, be adapted to use hydrogen in the future.

In a press release, S&P Global Platts said Danieli and Primetals Technologies are carrying out the design, manufacture and installation of the main process equipment.

In all, Ecolant will build 100 facilities to cover DRI production, steelmaking, air separation, water treatment, lime burning, byproduct processing, logistics and energy supply. The core lines will be based on Energiron technology.

The plant is expected to come on-line in 2025.
