Report: China Weighing Plan to Combine Steelmakers
08/02/2016 - Chinese officials are thinking about consolidating some of the country’s largest steelmakers into two behemoth companies, according to the Bloomberg news service.
Citing anonymous sources, Bloomberg said officials are considering mergers that would bring together Hebei Iron & Steel Group and Shougang Group in the north and Shanghai Baosteel Group Corp. and Wuhan Iron & Steel Group Corp. in the south. Baosteel and Wuhan have already signaled their intent to merge.
