Record Earnings on the Books for Nucor

In a press release today, the steelmaker reported consolidated net earnings of US$23.16 per diluted share for the full year 2021, compared to US$2.36 per diluted share in 2020.

For the fourth quarter of 2021, the company reported consolidated net earnings of US$7.97 per diluted share, which was initially forecast to be in the range of US$7.65 to US$7.75 per diluted share. This figure is up from the third quarter of 2021, which saw reported consolidated net earnings of US$7.28 per diluted share.
 
"By so many measures, 2021 was an extraordinary year for Nucor. Our team delivered incredible financial and operational results in 2021. However, I am even prouder of the fact that our team had a record year in safety performance for the second straight year," said Leon Topalian, Nucor's president and chief executive.
 
Nucor's fourth-quarter consolidated net sales increased slightly over the third quarter of 2021 and increased 97% over the fourth quarter of 2020. For the year, the company’s consolidated net sales of US$36.48 billion increased 81% over 2020’s figure of US$20.14 billion.
 
The company shipped 28,247,000 tons to outside customers in 2021, an increase of 11% from 2020.
