Rautaruukki Concludes Negotiations at Kurikka Unit

Ruukki’s Engineering division has concluded employer-employee negotiations to adjust production at its Kurikka unit in Finland. The company had initiated the negotiations in December 2008 as part of its effort to improve efficiency and to balance the unit’s production with current market conditions.
The negotiations, which applied to all personnel groups, resulted in 38 redundancies: 30 workers and eight clerical staff. The company said that it would make efforts to achieve 12 of the redundancies through pension arrangements. All redundancies are to be carried out during January of this year.
The company also reached an agreement with its Kurikka employees on lay-offs that will affect the all personnel at the unit. Under the agreement, a maximum of 110 workers and 23 clerical staff at any one time will be laid off for an indefinite period.
Rautaruukki supplies metal-based components, systems and integrated systems to the construction and engineering industries, including a wide selection of metal products and services. Rautaruukki has operations in 26 countries, employs 15,000 people, and reported net sales EUR 3.9 billion in 2007. The corporation uses the marketing name Ruukki.
Ruukki’s Kurikka unit, which employs around 500 people, manufactures cabins for mobile machinery and welded components for the lifting, handling and transportation equipment industry.
