Quad Infotech Completes Implementation of QMOS MES System at Nucor Steel Utah

This installation is a part of Nucor Steel - Utah's initiative to use QMOS in the roll shop, guide shop, stand building, billet yard, chem lab, both rolling mills, quality control and tagging areas. QMOS went live on 29 July 2013 with the roll shop, guide shop and stand building modules in the first phase of the project. This was followed by implementation of the rolling mills (Plymouth A/B), billet yard, billet allocation, quality and tagging on 15 September 2013. QMOS currently tracks all facets of rolled material process at Utah, including quality control.

QMOS has streamlined data entry, data correction and process tracking for the rolling mills and the roll shop. Since QMOS has become the system of record, the mills have been able to fully integrate their production processes with a centralized system, allowing them to record and access real-time information including delays, energy consumption and material tracking using visually enhanced, user-friendly screen.

Enhancements made to QMOS, along with an abundance of process-specific data analysis tools made for the steel industry along with custom KPI reports have provided the Nucor Steel - Utah facility with performance evaluation metrics and tools that provide insight into how their actual production measures up against predefined goals.

Furthermore, QMOS is communicating with their level 1 ERP (ROSS) for a streamlined data communication, production reporting, production adjustments, inventory tracking, order downloads, part and recipe creation.

Significant developments were made to automate the synchronicity of duplicate data existing between ROSS and QMOS which improve user experience and prevent manual entry by the schedulers.
