Quad Infotech Commissions New Manufacturing Software at Virginia Mill
04/25/2016 - Software engineering and design firm Quad Infotech Inc. has completed commissioning of its QMOS manufacturing execution system at Gerdau’s large section plant in Petersburg, Va., USA, the company has announced.
“The advanced piece-tracking tools of QMOS will help the Petersburg plant to track and manage individual rolled pieces anywhere in the manufacturing process. The QMOS genealogy provides end-to-end visibility of the entire operation and process parameters for each finished piece,” the company said in a statement.
QMOS, which stands for Quad Mill Operation System, is specifically designed for long products mills. At Gerdau’s Petersburg facility, the software will handle scheduling, production tracking and monitoring of the entire production line, from scrap charging and melting to rolling and bundling.
It also will monitor downstream operations; setup and maintenance operations, including those for the tundish, ladle, saws and shears; the billet yard; and melt shop quality labs.
Along with QMOS, Quad Infotech installed its QMOS APEX information management system at the facility. The APEX system creates web-based reports and provides live displays and alarm notifications.
The facility additionally is making use of the web-based QMOS MI (Manufacturing Intelligence) system, which offers detailed analyses of production, performance and quality data.
