PTC Alliance Operations Continue Despite Nine-Day Strike
10/10/2007 - Manufacturing operations have continued without interruption at PTC Alliance’s Alliance, Ohio, plant since the start of the United Steelworkers strike ten days ago.
PTC Alliance Corp. said that manufacturing operations at its Alliance, Ohio, plant have not been affected by the nine-day strike called by the United Steelworkers (USW).
"All of the plant's machinery is operating and we are continuing to produce product to satisfy customer orders," said Cary Hart, Chief Operating Officer of PTC Alliance's North American Tubing business. "During the first week of the strike, 100 trucks with product left the plant, and during the same time the company received about 80 trucks of supplies, which is in line with normal shipping volume. We continue to receive new orders as usual and there have been no cancellations of any customer orders."
Approximately 220 workers represented by the USW went on strike just after midnight on September 30 following expiration of the current labor contract. Prior to that time the company had been negotiating with the union, and had even reached an agreement with the union on a proposed Memorandum of Understanding that was signed by the local committee. After workers voted to reject the deal, the union approached management with a new list of non-economic demands that were unacceptable to the company. When the parties were unable to reach an agreement the union advised the company that it would go on strike.
Normal operations have continued at the plant since the strike began nine days ago. "We remain committed to a consensual agreement with the union and look forward to tomorrow's session with the federal mediator as a positive step in that process," said Hart.
