PSI to Supply Steel Plant Control System for Peiner Träger
06/25/2009 - Peiner Träger GmbH selects PSI to deliver and implement the production management system PSImetals for its electro-steel plant in Peine.
Peiner Träger GmbH has awarded PSI a contract to deliver and implement the production management system PSImetals for its electro-steel plant in Peine.
Peiner Träger, which produces structural steel for bridges, mining and tunnels, as well as the offshore industry, will use the new production management system to further customize its product range, expand production flexibility, and assure system-optimized operations. The PSI solution will also control and documents the production process.
The PSImetals process control system features PSI’s Production Execution Systems (PES), which delivers precise instructions as well as documentation for every production step. Peiner Träger expects the improved degree of automation to result in greater transparency, traceability, and quality assurance through standardized production processes and extensive capacity for process analytics.
The system will also enable extensive evaluation of materials usage, which will help Peiner Träger to reduce costs through optimized resource management. Supported by the PSImetals planning solution already in operation at the facility, the new system will also help to improve internal logistics by optimizing all production sequences and transportation routes.
“The decision in favor of PSImetals as steel mill control system completes our overall IT design for production at the Peine site, because we already plan both of the rolling mills with PSImetals,” said Arndt Wülfing, Head of Information Technology at Peiner Träger. “In the future we will have a cross-system planning and production control system with uniform data and be able to employ a greater degree of automation.
“The higher degree of configurability was also important for our users in the steel plant,” added Wülfing. “Whether in the daily operations, the introduction of new qualities of steel, modifications in manufacturing processes or the integration of new aggregates – all the necessary changes can be made independently by us with the configuration.”
PSIintegration will handle the integration of PSImetals production planning with the other associated systems such as SAP, laboratory systems, basic automation and material tracking systems in the rolling mill. The system is to be implemented and put into operation in stages, with productive system operation planned for mid 2010.
Peiner Träger GmbH, a long-steel producer, is part of the Steel business of the Salzgitter AG steel technology group. The entire process of structural steel production from the electro-steel mill to the continuous casting plants to the mill and the finishing lines is handled by the Peine site. The product range includes standard structural steel as well as offshore, pit and tempered steels for the highest demands.
PSI AG develops and integrates complete solutions, on the basis of its own software products, for the management of energy networks (electricity, gas, oil, heat, water), cross-company production management (metals, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics) and infrastructure management for telecommunications, transport and safety. PSI was founded in 1969 and employs 1250 persons in the group.
