Prolamsa Group Chooses Texas for Location of New Pipe and Tube Plant

The Prolamsa Group announced it will build its new 300,000 ton pipe and tube mill Texas Triangle Park in Bryan, Texas.
The plant, which will cost more than US$120 million, is expected to employ more than 285 people. It is expected to go into production mid-2014 and will produce energy tubular products designed to meet the growing demand for the oil and natural gas in the U.S.
The facility will operate under a newly formed company, Axis Pipe and Tube, Inc.
Bryan, Texas, located in Brazos County, was chosen after an exhaustive search of possible sites in the southeastern and southwestern U.S. Company officials said Bryan was selected for several reasons, including its environment for business activity, adequate supply of labor nearby, and its proximity to a broad and growing customer base. Prolamsa has obtained approvals for certain financial incentives and is processing and finalizing others, which all played critical roles in the process of choosing the location.
Company officials praised the state and local officials who helped in the selection process. A company spokesman said, "Everyone from the office of Governor Perry, to public officials of Brazos County and the city of Bryan, and the Research Valley Partnership were very helpful and provided the information and an enthusiastic spirit that convinced us to locate in Bryan. We honestly feel we are wanted as neighbors and partners.”
The construction of the main buildings will begin in the coming weeks, and this phase should be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. The commissioning of the plant is scheduled for the second quarter of 2014. The plant will receive and dispatch by truck and rail.
The new plant will produce ERW energy tubular products in diameters up to 16” with wall thicknesses up to .625", including API and ASTM specified products.

The Prolamsa Group was established in 1954 and is a leading producer of tube and pipe products in North America. It operates plants and distribution centers in Mexico and Texas. The company is known for its quality and extensive product lines.
