Production Ramps up at Upgraded ATI Allvac Mill

Production continues to ramp up at ATI Allvac's superalloy and specialty steel bar and rod mill in Richburg, S.C. Danieli Morgårdshammar recently completed major modifications at the plant to increase production capacity, improve plant efficiency and enhance final product quality.

ATI Allvac’s Richburg plant is one of the world's top producers of superalloys and specialty steels for the aerospace industry and other special applications.

The mill’s product range includes round and hexagon bar, bar-in-coil and wire rod in a wide range of grades including Ni-base and Ti-base superalloys and other specialty stainless and tool steels.

The upgraded plant delivered its first hot-rolled special steel bars at the end of March 2004.

Danieli Morgårdshammar’s upgrade of the Allvac mill included:

  • Installation of a new 8-stand Kocks-Danieli RSB reducing and sizing block.
  • Installation of a new cooling bed for water-quenching and natural air-cooling of straight bars.
  • New bar finishing services after the cooling bed, including slow-cooling facilities and a dedicated bar stacking/bundling station, designed for producing the highest possible final product quality.
  • New pouring reels with in-line water-quenching facilities.
  • Various modifications to the existing wire rod line, including new RRT rotating coil reforming pit and easy-down system.
  • New Sund coil collecting, handling and finishing facilities, serving both bar-in-coil and wire rod production lines.

Danieli Automation supplied electrical equipment and the automation system.
