Pro-Tec Selects VAII
as 2003 Supplier of the Year

March, 2004 — Pro-Tec Coating Co., Leipsic, Ohio, recently presented VAII’s Automation Division with the company’s 2003 Supplier of the Year Award.

Pro-Tec presents the award annually to the supplier that provides outstanding service, measured according to several key success factors. The award recipient must also conduct business in a manner consistent with Pro-Tec’s Core Values and Concepts.

This year’s award was based on VAII’s most recent project with Pro-Tec Coating Co., the final phase of the L2LA, Furnace Control and MMI Replacement Project on Pro-Tec’s No. 1 Continuous Galvanizing Line. Completion of this project in December 2003, brought to a close a 19-month project to eliminate obsolete equipment. The project had included replacement of the line area Level 2 System (L2LA); Pre-cleaner, Cleaner and Annealing Furnace Level 1 Process Control Systems; Line Control, Temper Mill, Coating Knife and Annealing Furnace MMI Systems; and the Level 1 Ethernet Data Communications Network.

The project was a multi-phase effort designed for startup and implementation during normally scheduled maintenance outages. The multiple systems included parallel operations and switchback capabilities that enabled the team to place a system on-line during short outages, test until they were satisfied with the results, and ultimately leave the completed and tested system online and in operation.

The planning, cooperation and effort by both companies resulted in the design, testing and installation of a more reliable system with the latest technologies with no loss of production. Best of all, the new system is helping Pro-Tec eliminate the costs and risks associated with obsolete equipment.
