The 3-strand continuous slab caster will be installed at Tangshan Donghua’s plant in Tangshan, Hebei province, and will supply slabs to the facility’s recently installed hot rolling mill.
 
According to Primetals Technologies, the caster will feature a unique design of the segment roller drives and protective shields for the middle strand. It said Tangshan Donghua will benefit from a “higher capacity compared to employing a 2-strand slab caster – at lower space requirements in comparison with the installation of an extra caster.”
 
The caster will be capable of handling slabs ranging in width from 750 to 1,000 mm in thicknesses of 210 mm, at a casting speed of up to 2.5 m/minute. It will be equipped with straight cassette-type Smart Molds, DynaWidth mold-width adjustment system, DynaFlex hydraulic oscillator, DynaJet spray cooling and a sophisticated automation package.
 
Start-up is expected for December 2022.
