Primetals Technologies Undertakes Caster Overhaul
05/14/2019 - China’s Angang Iron & Steel Group Co. has contracted Primetals Technologies to rebuild the No. 1 slab caster at its Anshan plant in the Liaoning province.
In an announcement, Primetals Technologies said the goal of the project is to improve slab quality and to increase maximum slab thickness from 300 mm to 360 mm. The project also is intended to increase flexibility.
The 20-year-old caster produces medium-carbon to high-carbon steels, micro-alloyed, low-alloyed, alloyed and high-alloyed steels for use in an associated plate mill.
Primetals Technologies said the caster will be equipped with its LevCon mold level control system Mold Expert breakout detection system, DynaWidth for automatic width adjustment, and the DynaFlex mold oscillator.
It also is installing Single-Roll DynaGap (SRD) segments in the horizontal strand guide, marking the first application of SRD segments in a Chinese caster.
Primetals Technologies also will provide the detail engineering of the tundish, tundish car, mold, oscillator, bender, segments and alignment stands. It additionally will supply parts for the strand guide system as well as the complete supply of SRD hard-reduction segments.
The project is to be completed in the third quarter of this year.
