According to Primetals Technologies, the improved line will handle an increased production coming from an additional, recently implemented processing line.

Work included installation of a second entry passline, an additional mill stand, and a pickling tank. New drives and automation hardware also were installed. Primetals Technologies originally installed the pickling line/tandem cold mill in 2014 for the joint venture, and the project represented a second phase of work. 

The company said the project was challenged by the shortage of microchips and automation equipment, which resulted in delays in equipment shipments. Also, COVID-19 restrictions in China added a level of uncertainty to the project, the company said.  

“However, despite the challenges and thanks to a successful collaborative approach, the first coil was produced on time,” Primetals Technologies said.
