According to Primetals Technologies, the level 2 continuous casting process optimization system allows producers to use an operating expense licensing model when installing a new automation system, instead of having to plan for capital investments.

To that end, new releases, upgrades, and updates are made on a regular basis, and the service package includes remote support for troubleshooting, advice, training, fine-tuning, and optimization.

“This means that the process optimization system is continuously updated in small steps, thus lightening the workload for automation experts, as they are no longer required to adapt to sudden, extensive changes to their systems,” Primetals Technologies said. 

The most recent of the installations took place on two continuous casters at an unnamed U.S. integrated mill, Primetals Technologies said. The system was installed during a planned 16-hour shutdown.
