Primetals Technologies Receives FAC on Modernized Caster
02/26/2019 - China’s Angang Iron & Steel has issued the final acceptance certificate on a modernized slab caster at its plant in the city of Anshan, reports the contractor on the project.
According to Primetals Technologies, the two-strand caster was outfitted with a new tundish, tundish car and Primetals Technologies’ LevCon mold level control system. A straight cassette-style mold also was installed. Other technology packages include a breakout detection system, an automatic width adjustment system and a mold oscillator. Additionally, a new secondary cooling system was installed.
The goal of the project was to improve the product quality and productivity, and to give the caster a greater range of grades and casting formats, Primetals Technologies said. The caster was started up in late October and processed more than 1,700 heats in the ensuing two months.
Primetals Technologies provided the basic engineering for the tundish, ladle shroud, dummy bar system, and the supporting structure and maintenance stands. It also provided detailed engineering for the shroud manipulator, tundish car, mold and mold oscillator, strand-guiding system segments, secondary cooling and dummy bar.
