Primetals Technologies Nabs Order for voestalpine Tandem Mill Upgrade
03/24/2022 - voestalpine Stahl GmbH has chosen Primetals Technologies to convert the continuous tandem line at its Linz, Austria, site to a fully automated pickling tandem line optimized for high-strength and electrical steels, according to the supplier.
Primetals Technologies said the BETA 3 line upgrade at Linz’s colling rolling mill No. 3 will allow voestalpine to improve the quality of its high-strength, ultrahigh-strength and electrical steel grades. The new pickling tandem line will be capable of processing 1.9 million tons of steel per year in final strip thicknesses between 0.5 and 3 mm, which can be rolled down further to 0.3 mm for electrical steel applications.
In addition to the machinery, Primetals Technologies will also update the entire line’s electrical and automation systems to meet current digitalization standards.
Primetals Technologies said it expects the project to wrap up by the end of next year.
