Primetals Technologies Inks Deal for New Rolling Mill
02/04/2021 - Vietnamese steel producer Maruichi Sun Steel Joint Stock Co. (SUNSCO) has signed an agreement with Primetals Technologies to install a new type of rolling mill that will produce thinner construction steels.
In a statement, Primetals Technologies said the company will install a light-duty Hyper Universal Crown mill at a plant in Binh Duong Province. The mill builds on Primetals Technologies’ Hyper Universal Crown concept, extending it to the production of thinner and softer material by using optimized roll forces.
A key feature of the mill, Primetals Technologies said, is that it uses smaller-diameter work rolls, which reduces rolling loads.
“The new mill will enable SUNSCO to build a stable position in the market with the growing demand for thinner materials for the building and construction industries. Under the climatic conditions prevalent in southeast Asian countries like Vietnam, thinner, sheet-based roof materials need to be replaced regularly and are therefore in high demand. The challenge is to produce building materials durable and of high quality, but with continually reduced thickness to save costs,” Primetals Technologies said.
The mill will be capable of rolling sheets down to 0.2 mm and in widths of 1,250 mm.
Primetals Technologies will supply the mechanical and electrical equipment and supervise installation and commissioning.
