Primetals Technologies Forms Alliance with Filter Plant Manufacturer
06/30/2017 - Primetals Technologies and Austria’s Kappa Filter Systems have struck up a partnership to develop and sell de-dusting systems for iron and steel plants, the companies have announced.
Under a five-year cooperation agreement, Primetals will market and sell Kappa’s patented Zeron large-fabric filter system, while Kappa will engineer the plants for specific projects. Although the companies are initially targeting electric arc furnaces and secondary de-dusting systems, they’ve agreed to work together on further developing the technology for other applications, such as sintering and pelletizing plants and certain basic oxygen furnaces.
"With this cooperation agreement, we are widening our portfolio for de-dusting solutions for the iron and steel industry by adding a system that is not only considerably more environmentally friendly, but also has a much lower energy requirement and greater flexibility, even in respect of future requirements,” said Alexander Fleischanderl, technology officer and head of ECO Solutions at Primetals Technologies.
“The combination of innovative Zeron technology ... and development know-how from Primetals Technologies offers our customers a complete package that brings together environmental protection and economic efficiency."
Primetals said the design of the Zeron plants allows all of the functional areas of the air filtering process to be integrated compactly into one filter building, from the dust pre-separation to the clean gas stack.
“This leads to an optimal air flow pattern without turbulence or vortex, and the result is an extraordinary low total filter resistance. This considerably reduces the amount of energy required for operation in comparison to conventional bag filter systems,” Primetals said.
