Primetals Technologies Completes Modernization of Angang Plate Mill
04/16/2025 - Chinese steel producer Angang Ltd. presented a final acceptance certificate (FAC) to Primetals Technologies for an automation upgrade at its plate mill in Bayuquan.
Primetals Technologies said it supplied and implemented full automation systems, a process camera system and a new human-machine interface (HMI).
Angang said the upgraded mill can roll with increased flatness and profile quality along with producing thinner plates down to a thickness between 5 to 50 mm and widths from 1,450 to 3,600 mm. The modernization will allow them to produce new types of steel including X60MO subsea pipeline special steel, notable for its shape and surface quality requirements.
Angang estimates the mill has a capacity of 1.4 million metric tons per year. They plan to expand further with new steel grades in the future.
