Primetals Technologies Bags Order for U.S. EAF
11/20/2024 - Primetals Technologies has won an order for a 68-ton electric arc furnace from an unidentified U.S. producer.
According to Primetals Technologies, the order for an EAF Ultimate furnace includes the equipment maker’s integrated power supply technology, a primary dedusting system, a material handling system, auxiliary equipment, and a complete level 1 and level 2 automation system.
Primetals Technologies said the selection of its Active Power Feeder power supply technology will enable the steel manufacturer to power the furnace using direct AC-AC conversion at a medium voltage level, marking a significant advancement in energy efficiency.
The new furnace will replace two spout-tapping electric arc furnaces and will boast an annual production capacity of 750,000 tons. Primetals Technologies said the steel producer specializes in medium-carbon, high-alloy and free-cutting steel grades.
Start-up is scheduled for the end of 2026.
