Primetals Tapped for Bar Mill Upgrades
08/01/2017 - Primetals Technologies has won a contract to modernize a Turkish bar mill, the equipment supplier has announced.
In a statement, Primetals said it will install new dividing and handling systems at the Çelik Makina Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Çemtaş) facility in Bursa. The equipment includes a new hot dividing shear, which will allow for the use of 200 mm billets in production; an abrasive disk saw, which will be able to cut wider layers of bars; and an automatic bundling and packaging system, which replaces a manually operated system.
“With these measures, existing systems can be used more efficiently and current productivity limitations can be overcome,” Primetals said in a statement.
Primetals said the contract is part of a broader modernization, which it has been helping to support. Primetals already has supplied a reversing sliding roughing stand and an intermediate train and is now making upgrades to the plant’s electric arc furnace.
Primetals is responsible for the engineering and design of the equipment and will provide the main and auxiliary drives and motors and the level 1 automation package. The company also will advise on the installation, startup, commissioning and training.
The project is to be completed by the end of the year.
