Primetals Called to Upgrade Austrian Rolling Mill

The project, which entails improvements to the flat rolling block, is meant to increase plant availability, reduce maintenance costs and improve product quality and energy efficiency, Primetals said.

To that end, Primetals will install new drives and its RollMaster automation system, replacing an obsolete system that has been in place since the plant was commissioned in 1988. Primetals also will install new main and auxiliary drives outfitted with Sinamics S120 frequency converters, new main gearboxes and new operator controls.

“The elimination of the hydraulic systems will reduce maintenance costs and increase plant availability which, in turn, will boost the productivity of the rolling line,” Primetals said in a statement.
