Primetals Bags Contract for New BOF in Germany
08/04/2016 - ArcelorMittal’s Ruhrort plant in Germany has ordered a new basic oxygen furnace (LD converter) from Primetals Technologies. According to Primetals, the 150-metric-ton converter will replace an existing converter, designated as K2.
Primetals will supply the converter vessel, trunnion ring, a Viacon Link 2.0 suspension, slag protection and doghouse gates. It also will equip the unit with measuring and sampling devices, control stations and the control systems for a horizontal sublance.
Primetals is partnering with Austria’s Buchinger Anlagen-Stahl-Rohrbau GmbH on the project. The plant engineering and construction firm will dismantle the old converter and install the new one. Primetals will oversee that work and will provide commissioning and training services.
The new converter is to come online in October 2017.
