Primetals, AIC Win Order for 500K Rebar Mill
06/09/2016 - Filipino rebar maker Capitol Steel Corp. has awarded a contract for a new bar rolling mill to Primetals Technologies and partner Automazioni Industriali Capitanio S.r.l. (AIC), according to Primetals.
Primetals said Capitol Steel is building the mill to meet demand from a booming construction market in the Philippines. When finished in the second half of 2017, it will be capable of producing 500,000 metric tons of rebar annually in diameters of between 8 and 50 mm.
The rolling line will consist of a 7-stand roughing mill and a 6-stand intermediate mill in an HV configuration. The 6-stand finishing mill will be in an H configuration. The mill also will include a hot dividing shear, an 84-meter cooling bed, a cold dividing shear, and automatic bundling and binding equipment.
The mill is being designed so that with a few retorfits it can make plain rounds and merchant bars. It also is being laid out to accommodate a future billet welding system to allow endless rolling and a wire rod outlet for the production of coils, Primetals said.
Primetals will provide the design and engineering, and AIC will supply the electrical equipment and a Level 2 automation system. Both companies also will provide workforce training and construction, startup and commissioning of the plant.
