President Obama to Visit ArcelorMittal Cleveland

Mr Lakshmi Mittal, chairman and CEO, will be present to welcome the President to the facility.

Commenting, Mr. Mittal said: “We are honored to host the President of the United States at ArcelorMittal Cleveland, and I look forward to personally welcoming him at the mill on Thursday. The facility recently celebrated 100 years of steelmaking in Cleveland and therefore, it is especially rewarding to host President Obama at this site that symbolizes the strength and overall increased competitiveness of American manufacturing.”

Said Eric Hauge, vice president & general manager, ArcelorMittal Cleveland, “After a century of steelmaking in the industrial valley, ArcelorMittal Cleveland today is recognized as the company’s most productive integrated steel mill in North America and one of the most productive steelmaking facilities throughout the world, based on employee hours per ton of steel produced. This record has been critical to the facility’s longevity. World-class productivity, while maintaining high levels of safety, is a result of the hard work and dedication of the entire Cleveland workforce and the strong commitment from both ArcelorMittal and the United Steelworkers to sustain the operation, its well-paying jobs and substantial contributions to the community.

“Building on this legacy, ArcelorMittal Cleveland is emerging as a global center of excellence for the production of advanced high strength steels that are critical to future automotive fuel efficiency. At the forefront of this innovation is the facility’s hot dip galvanizing line, which is fed by two steelmaking operations, including the recently restarted #2 steel producing facility on the west bank of the River. Investments of more than US$70 million this year alone help to secure ArcelorMittal Cleveland’s position as a leader in the industry while helping to position northeast Ohio as one of the nation’s strongest, most innovative manufacturing centers.”
