Premier Alliance to Implement Automated Demand Response at California Steel
03/08/2012 - Premier Alliance Group’s recently acquired Energy Division, Greenhouse Holdings, has been contracted to implement Southern California Edison’s Automated Demand Response (Auto-DR) program for California Steel Industries at its 450-acre Fontana, Calif., facility.
Premier Alliance Group, Inc.’s recently acquired Energy Division, Greenhouse Holdings, has been contracted to implement Southern California Edison’s Automated Demand Response (Auto-DR) program for California Steel Industries, Inc. (CSI). Premier will implement Auto-DR and automation technologies inside CSI’s 450-acre Fontana, Calif., facility, claiming that the project will be one of the largest energy management systems of its kind in the country.
Premiers’ Greenhouse division is a qualified service provider of Southern California Edison’s Auto-DR program, providing site assessment and audits, feasibility studies, project development, engineering, and installation of enabling technologies including complete processing of all utility documents. CSI will be provided a fully automated energy management and control system complete with a customized software platform that will interface with specific process equipment and all of the HVAC and lighting in the facility.
The Auto-DR program offers financial incentives and technical support to Southern California Edison (SCE) customers willing to install equipment that enables participation in demand response events versus depending on their employees to perform all the curtailment activities manually when required. Normally, control systems (automation) are installed with the programming needed to achieve reductions in electricity consumption during peak periods of demand on the grid.
“Participants in SCE’s Auto-DR program are in 100% control of the actual curtailment measures implemented on an event-to-event basis,” said Robert Davis, Senior Vice President of Energy Services. “Additionally, the systems commonly implemented for Auto-DR participation are fully capable of being used to improve productivity and equipment operating efficiencies as well as provide users with information that can augment routine and emergency operations and maintenance regimens.”
