Potential Merger Could Give Rise to Super-Sized Steel Producer
04/16/2021 - Two Chinese steelmakers are reviving merger discussions that could lead to the formation of one of the world’s largest steelmakers, according to the Bloomberg news service.
According to Bloomberg, Anshan Iron & Steel Group and Benxi Iron & Steel Group are resuming on-and-off-again discussions that have taken place at least since the 2000s.
If successful, the merged company would likely overtake Nippon Steel Corp. as the world’s third-largest producer, Bloomberg reported.
